First Ravel piece that I’ve played 15 or so years ago. Small prelude written in 1913 for Paris conservatory sight-reading competition whose winner became Jeanne Leleu. Ravel dedicated this prelude to her. Not an ordinary woman. She premiered Ravel’s “Ma Mère l’Oye” in 1910 and won Rome Prize in 1923. Consequently she was sight-reading and harmony professor at Paris conservatory. My take on it.
