Sombre Music

Mini set of four small pieces written between June and November ’24. This work reflects on the theme of loss. Break with the loved ones and native places and all the feelings that accompany this.

I. Melancholia
II. Nostalgia
III. Elegia
IV. Evesong

Melancholia, Nostalgia and Elegia don’t conform to the particular tonality although have tonal resolve. Whereas Evesong stays in F# throughout. All four pieces connect to each other through G major / E minor. Both Melancholia and Evesong end in G making it full circle.

Melancholia has a loose reference at the end to Scriabin‘s Fragilite op.51. Elegia was inspired by Brahms‘s 4th Ballade.
